The Bothell House: Dining Room
BEFORE + AFTER
DESIGN DETAILS
To help clients visualize + effectively communicate with contractors and other vendors, here are a handful of project details from the Bothell House.
We’re so excited to share details from The Bothell House: Dining Room –– one of our favorite projects in Bothell, Washington.
From a complete remodel of the entire downstairs to furnishing + styling each room, our clients wanted our help in creating a home that left the mid-1990’s craftsman style in the past + welcomed in a more modern version they could call home.
And when it came to the dining room, which Kayleigh says is her favorite room in the whole house (based on all the spaces we renovated together) we spent a considerable amount of time during the assessment phase learning more about why remodeling the dining room was important. What was it that made this room so special?
You see, having remodeled their previous home on their own before as well as having a little one, Kayleigh had grown accustomed to eating dinners standing at the counter, plating her daughter’s food + watching as her’s got cold. #It’sAHardMomsLife
But an updated look + feel for the dining room was important to Kayleigh because she imagined what life would be like, being able to use this space for large family gatherings like Thanksgiving + Christmas but also for smaller special occasions.
As life continues to unfold + her little one gets older — the dining room would offer a place for herself, her husband + her daughter to all gather around the table despite the crazy hustle + bustle throughout the week. In a world that’s all about moving faster + further, the dining room for Kayleigh would play host to meaningful time in which her family can listen to + really reconnect with one another.
With Phase 1 (assessment) complete, we designed the dining room focusing both on the functionality of creating a room that…
1) felt intimate enough for the three of them to enjoy on a regular basis,
2) could easily host a larger group if needed in addition to
3) making a statement of its own without detracting from the rest of the home.
And the dining room my friend, of The Bothell House project, is a perfect expression of that intention.
A large expansive wood table layered with handcrafted character + architectural details was designed to not only withstand the test of time but age beautifully with each passing memory that’s made around the table. #Showstopper
With the dining room having a large opening directly into the formal living room, we knew that incorporating a pop of navy blue in the dining rug would tie the two spaces together creating a subtle sense of continuity. To continue the seamless flow between these two living spaces we also pulled the board and batten onto the walls which added depth + created the illusion of vertical height.
And the proximity of the dining room to the kitchen (which we were also renovating at the same time) meant plating food in the kitchen wouldn’t be a problem but when viewed from multiple spaces in their home, the dining room needed to command attention with an unexpected feature of its own #HelloGorgeousCeiling
Balancing the northwest craftsman architecture of the home, with a hand full of modern come hither luxuries we sprinkled into this remodel project (like the simple yet swoon-worthy chandelier + coffered ceilings) we maintained black as a contrasting color in the chairs + lighting which adds a level of sophistication to balance the bright + airy color palette.
And don’t underestimate the power of those gray linen roman shades which perfectly frame the bay windows. Because without even realizing it they pull you into the dining room which overlooks the kids playing in that gorgeous backyard.
