BASICS FOR ORGANIZING JEWELRY

Before we dive in head first, let’s consider some important basics to organizing your jewelry.

PICK A LOCATION

If I’m being frank, nothing chaotic ever becomes orderly without a plan. So, to tidy up your jewelry + find a place for all the accessories you love, survey your space + choose a location that will work the best –– get creative!

CATEGORIZE

If wherever you’ve decided to organize your jewelry winds up being not enough space for everything you want to keep, that’s ok. Because at the end of the day, getting organized isn’t about getting rid of everything you own just to make space. It’s about creating room for the things that matter most.

Start by separating + pulling out your most beloved pieces. Then categorize all of your other jewelry based upon rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces etc.

And… if you’re struggling to fit all your pretties into one spot consider not only categorizing your jewelry but create zones. Find locations in + around the same area (ideally the same room) this way you can keep what you love + store what you have.

IDENTIFY WHAT’S MISSING

When it comes to exploring jewelry organizing ideas it’s incredibly easy to get overwhelmed because there are literally d-o-z-e-n-s of storage solutions. Many of which can be bought either online or in-person! Which is why in an effort to help minimize that gut wrenching feeling before you go shopping identify first what type of jewelry storage works best for your space + for your jewelry.

Lucky you, I’m about to introduce you to our favorite jewelry storage ideas below. So wipe that bewildered look off of that beautiful face of yours + keep reading.

NUMBER 1: JEWELRY DRAWER ORGANIZER

Who knew concealed storage could make a girl’s heart skip a beat :)

Let’s face it, jewelry’s one of those things you’re either given as a gift or indulge in buying for yourself. Regardless, I’m willing to bet there’s some likelihood that your jewelry collection is ‘a little bit of this’  and ‘a little bit of that.’ Not to mention, as interior designers + professional organizers, we’re all too familiar with the fact that not everyone wants to stare at their jewelry collection 24/7 unless ya know, they intend on wearing it.

Enter jewelry drawer organizers. Maybe you already have an existing piece of furniture that you’re using to store jewelry like the top drawers of a dresser (or even a vanity that you sit + do your makeup at). If so, this is a fantastic place to start but I’m guessing that it’s also a chaotic mess *wink* #NoJudgement it just means that you’re not fully optimizing the space in the best way possible aaaannnd...we’re about to fix it.

The good news is that there’s a ton of customizing options from jewelry tray inserts to even expandable trays that can be sized to fit the exact dimension of your drawers. It’s like real-life game of Tetris where you can mix + match trays until you get the perfect fit + exactly what you’re in need of.

Girl, imagine the next time you’re looking for the perfect piece of jewelry to complement that stunning outfit of yours... you can literally open those jewelry drawers + be overcome with tranquility.

NUMBER 2: JEWELRY STAND  OR JEWELRY BOX

We love both of these options because they’re not only functional in that they store your jewelry + are designed to help keep it organized but whether it’s a jewelry stand or jewelry box, both can be decorative accents that don’t just sit on a table + look pretty but really help to bring your space to life.

Who says all of your jewelry has to be hidden away? Jewelry stands + jewelry boxes are great options for select pieces that you want to show off (or just admire). But you don’t want to use them for every piece of jewelry you own because your collection can easily become cluttered.

So, in an effort to not clutter up your space select your top 8-10 pieces + consider how you might be able to accessorize your room with a jewelry stand or jewelry box displayed on top of a vanity, dresser, credenza, or any other tabletop.

When it comes to jewelry boxes don’t forget that you can stack them to make use of any vertical space + to also, neatly, of course, store more jewelry :)

A great way to think about stacking jewelry boxes is to put the most used items in the top box + make sure the bottom box is a pull-out this way you’re not constantly rearranging your decorative accents every day + you can always see what’s inside.

NUMBER 3: JEWELRY TRAY + JEWELRY DISH

So you like the idea of displaying some everyday pieces do ya? Well, my friend, nothing is better than a jewelry tray or jewelry dish for the things you routinely wear like your wedding band or other go to rings, your favorite bracelet + earrings.

Both are highly functional jewelry organizers because they come in every different shape, size, or style you could imagine. We always recommend that our clients who wear a lot of jewelry have one of these pretties not only in the bedroom but also in the bathroom as a catchall while you’re taking a shower or getting dressed.

Those of you who aren’t fans of the jewelry as decor might not necessarily like the idea of a larger jewelry tray which is why a smaller jewelry dish is great on your nightstand for the quick things you take on or off before bed.

NUMBER 4: Hanging Jewelry Organizer

If you’re tight on space — a hanging jewelry organizer is an excellent storage solution because well — they hang on the wall + we’re all about maximizing vertical wall space!

We really love the hanging jewelry storage that’s hidden behind a beautiful mirror or in a hanging armoire because it not only saves precious tabletop + drawer space but it makes your walls f-u-n-ctional. But truth be told, these aren’t the only hanging jewelry organizers that work.

A couple of other fun ideas are to consider using decorative wall hooks to hang longer necklaces + install a smaller shelf above those hooks to organize + display smaller jewelry pieces.

And just like that — there are four of our favorite jewelry storage ideas that are not only functional but beautiful!
